History

The first Springfield Carols event took place off the back of a truck in 1998. There were less than a hundred people in attendance.

Since then, there has been quite a bit of growth, which mirrors the growth that has taken place in Greater Springfield in that time. These days, the carols are held in the Robelle Domain in the beautiful Springfield Central Parklands, and attendance now tops 8,000 people.

Many volunteers working together make the carols possible. We contract the best audio-visual professionals we can afford, and everyone volunteers to make it all happen. Sometimes, everything doesn’t exactly go according to plan (like a massive summer storm at the last minute), but that’s the nature of an outdoor community event. We have a great local venue, and some great local talent, so we are thankful for the opportunity to bring everyone together for a special night at Christmas each year.

Below are the video recordings of previous years, since recordings were possible.

2023

Many have said that our 2023 Carols was the best ever! It was a perfect Springfield summer’s evening to sing carols and celebrate Christmas together.

2022

What a perfect night it was for our 2022 Carols. “Night of Light” was the theme, with amazing vocalists and dancers to tell the Christmas story.

2021

Our first year back after the COVID enforced break, and we were keen to have absolutely everybody together to celebrate Christmas. It was a gorgeous Springfield summer evening, and it was the largest carols crowd ever.

2020

With the COVID-Restrictions that were in place in 2020 we were not able to have an outdoor event of the size of the Carols. So instead, we had an online carols event live-streamed out of the Springfield studios of the University of Southern Queensland.

2019

The carols of 2019 were our most ambitious from a technical perspective. And sadly it meant we encountered a few issues with the audio in the nativity segment. And due to the threat of local bushfires, we were not able to finish with the usual fireworks display. But otherwise, it was a great night.

2018

Each year we are amazed to discover some new local talent. And 2018 was no exception!

2017

Our first attempt in 2017 was rained out. But we re-grouped, and the carols went ahead the following week.

2016

This was the first year that the large video screen was installed above the main stage at Robelle Domain, so we added an OB (outside broadcast) truck to the tech requirements, and this resulted in having our first video recording of the carols.
